Sort & Save begins Rhondda Cynon Taf Schools project
| Date: 23/03/2011 |
| Innovative new recycling scheme Sort & Save, operated by well-established recycling firm Siteserv Ltd, has launched a new joint initiative with Rhondda Cynon Taf council that is set to turn costly waste management bills into financial windfalls for schools in the area. |
| The initiative is incredibly simple for the schools to adopt, with Sort & Save recycling bins distributed to the school into which they deposit bags of their sorted and cleaned recyclable material. The bins are emptied regularly and weighed at the Sort & Save head depot before rebates are applied to the school’s account. |
| Under the school’s previous waste management service they would have incurred bills to remove the waste. However, with Sort & Save’s initiative the school are now rewarded for their recycling, and have started to accumulate funds which they can then reinvest into sports equipment, computers, text books or whatever else they may need to help continue their excellent work in producing tomorrows talent. |
| Nigel Wheeler Service Director for Streetcare in Rhondda Cynon Taf CBC stated 'This scheme is part of our drive to get the school to a Zero Waste School whilst reducing the waste disposal cost for the school and gaining them valuable income. It is an innovative scheme and one we are looking to promote to all schools if successful' |
| Work is now two weeks into a pilot scheme at Pontypridd High School where already the children, teachers and office staff at the school have contributed fantastically by recycling over a tonne of recyclable material. |
Sort & Save Development Manager Mark Rollings hailed the early work at the school; “Even though we are only a couple of weeks into the initiative we have seen the benefits from working with such a pro-active and environmentally responsible school. We now hope to work with Rhondda Cynon Taf council to roll out this scheme to schools throughout the borough.”
